Objectives

The main objectives of the GROFTS are to carry out research into scientific and engineering concepts in the area of optical fibre telecommunications technology, and train undergraduate and graduate students in this area.

The research activity is focused mainly in the areas of

· Advanced modulation formats with high spectral efficiency

· Metropolitan and long distance optical networks

· WDM transmission systems

· 2R and 3R optical regeneration

· Radio over fibre systems

and involves

o optoelectronic devices and sub-systems characterisation,

o systems and networks modelling and simulation and

o systems design and implementation.
