Alexandra M. Carvalho

I finished my five year degree in Applied Mathematics at IST in July 1998. For four years I was wealthily designing and coding software.

I returned to the academy in October 2002 and became a master student in Computer Science at IST. I finished my master in June 2004 with a thesis on Efficient Algorithms for Structured Motif Extraction in DNA Sequences, supervised by Arlindo Oliveira (IST) and Ana Teresa Freitas (IST). Thereafter, I concluded my PhD in Computer Science at IST, under the topic of Motif representation and discovery, supervised by Arlindo Oliveira (IST) and Marie-France Sagot (INRIA Rhône-Alpes).

I am a researcher of Pattern and Image Analysis Group at IT. I am also an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of IST.
